Metro Exodus Review

Metro Exodus is the third iteration in the Metro game series. The action-packed first-person shooting game was released back in 2019 by Deep Silver while being developed by 4A Games. The earlier installments of the Metro series were well received by critics, which led to the creation of Metro Exodus, and unsurprisingly this game did not disappoint either. The Metro series is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s books, so if you want you can get an in-depth idea of the story from reading the novels but if you want a rundown of what Metro Exodus is all about then keep on reading.

Story

Metro Exodus is set in a futuristic dystopia that is set in the year 2035. The events leading to Exodus are discussed in detail in the previous two games. It’s recommended that you go play those games first before moving to Exodus. Otherwise, you will be unable to understand the story, events, and characters.

Metro Exodus begins one year after the events that take place in Metro: Last Light. You play the character of Artyom who escapes from the Moscow Metro on a train called the Aurora. Artyom and his friends must travel East in search of greener pastures and find other survivors of the post-nuclear world.

The story begins after the attack on D6. Ayrtom becomes fed up with the corruption and injustice being done in the Metro and as a result, he leaves the Spartan Order to focus his energies elsewhere. Artyom is adamant about finding other survivors of the nuclear explosion that happened years ago. He ventures outside the Metro going to the surface multiple times to find a trace of human life. Anna, Artyom’s lovely wife does not approve but soon finds herself joining her husband in his expeditions. One day, the couple spots a moving train, but before they can follow it, they are captured by Hansa soldiers. Artyom is shot in the head and Anna is imprisoned, but he survives the ordeal and aims to rescue his wife from the Hansa soldiers.

On his way to the rescue, Artyom chances upon a signal jammer that he destroys, and as a result, a new world opens up. The radio picks up distress signals and voices from afar confirming Artyom’s claims of remnant human life. Once Anna is rescued, the couple decides to flee on the train with the Spartan Order joining them in the adventure.

The rest of the story follows an epic adventure that is no short of a riveting experience for the player.

Gameplay

The smooth gameplay of the Metro Exodus resembles that of the other famous FPS games. You get to use several guns, bombs, and knives to protect yourself against the terrorizing creatures that rule the Earth. Humans rarely inhabit the ground above which is why you are likely to encounter monstrous creatures every time you venture out in the open.

Protecting yourself at all times is necessary and since you are alone on the surface there is hardly anyone to help you recover from damage. Supplies are pretty rare as well so you have to stack up on resources once you are out on your adventure. Things like guns, ammo, tools, medical aids, etc. are spread over the map and you have to work hard to find them.

metro exodus on amazon luna is the best version yet!

Graphics

Metro Exodus has brilliant graphics. There is a lot of attention to detail especially considering the game universe consists of a large arid land with small huts, vehicles, and battered buildings spread over everywhere. The guns and the characters look very real. In other words, the game looks like it has been made in the modern era and it will look great on a giant 4k screen.

metro exodus on amazon luna performs great

Performance

The game runs very smooth regardless of the platform it is played on. The high fps ratings make it easy for you to move the character, aim at targets, and traverse the terrain. Since the Metro Exodus is only a year old you are expected to have the latest console or the latest upgrades on your PC to play it at the highest settings. This isn’t the case when playing it on Amazon Luna! When playing on Luna we didn’t experience any issues – except maybe one or two connections dropouts but that was easily fixed!

Final Thoughts

Metro Exodus is a game built for those of you who love dystopian themed FPS games. Frankly, there are a lot of these around but Metro Exodus differs because of its interesting storyline and riveting gameplay. The deeper you go in the game the more hooked you are to your screen, especially if you have played the first two games of the series. If you still haven’t played the first two Metro games you are seriously missing out on a thrilling game series that is rated well by critics and gamers all across the world.
