Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction on Amazon Luna

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction Review

The Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series has always been about realism and strategy, something that was perfectly encapsulated by the Siege entry. So, where does Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction fall? The game maintains the realism of Siege, but it adds a new element in the form of Aliens. Yes, in this game you will find yourself dealing with aliens that are trying to occupy Earth in very important locations. Your focus is to try and stop them, while fulfilling a vast range of objectives.

Like Siege, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction also has its fair share of operators, whose list continues to grow and expand. Each operator can be fully customized with gear and visuals the way you see fit. They also have different abilities too, and these can make the difference as you play. Every operator has a distinct ultimate ability too. This certainly adds up to the experience, since you have to play as a team and every ability can be used for the better good.

And that’s where Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction’s main strength is, the focus on teamplay. If you play with friends and coordinate, you have a higher chance of winning. That being said, if you play with randoms and you don’t connect properly or communicate, you can end up losing. That’s why adequate teamwork can actually help you fulfill the missions. And yes, there are multiple difficulty levels in the game too. You can’t really compete on the more challenging difficulty levels without connecting with others and teamwork, which is great.

That being said, there is an overarching narrative in the game. However, it’s not really that impressive, and it quickly becomes forgettable. What you really want is to focus on how you fulfill the gameplay ideas and how it all plays together. The story itself isn’t even worth caring for.

Needless to say, the game does have a progression system, and this involves quite a bit of grind. Most of the time you will find weaker enemies, but on the higher difficulty levels you can find some specific enemy types that can be really difficult to deal with and eliminating them is a challenge. That can become tricky to play, especially if you choose to play alone. And yes, you can play alone if you want, or just with a friend. The difficulty of the game scales automatically in order to keep things fair and challenging, which is exactly what you want.

When it comes to the gameplay itself, it’s very similar to Siege to where you might think it’s the same game. However, the addition of aliens is fresh, the major downside for all players is definitely going to be the grind and repetitive objectives. Yet if you get past that and you just want to kill enemies with friends in an objective based game, then Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction delivers. We’re not sure about the long term appeal, but the game is engaging and fun to play, and if they add new content and operators to keep things fresh, it might very well have a great future ahead of it!
