Watch Dogs Legion Review

Watch Dogs is a popular game franchise with three big titles, developed and published by Ubisoft. The first game of the series came out back in 2014, and it was an instant hit. The game’s popularity rose so quickly that Ubisoft was forced to release the second installment in a short amount of time. Watch Dogs 2 was released in 2016, becoming the second title in the game series. This new title earned many positive reviews, much like its predecessor, and hardcore gamers loved the game, its story, graphics, and gameplay.

Now, after a four-year hiatus, Watch Dogs Legion is now out on Amazon Luna (Ubisoft+), with Ubisoft aiming to revive the hype once created by the original game.

Story

The new game shows a future London where DedSec, a local branch of hackers, is looking to clear their name from a terrorist bombing that has recently rattled the metropolis. The branch also wants to free the oppressed citizens from the tyrannical rule of Albion, a private military company that aims to build a surveillance state using London’s cTOS system.

Watch Dogs Legion does not have a lead-character instead players are forced to recruit and utilize the abilities of various characters throughout the game. If one of the characters is killed, the focus is shifted to the recruits with who you choose to continue the game.

Gameplay

The Watch Dogs Legion is played with a third-person perspective, meaning you have a clear view of the character’s surrounding at all times, and you have to have excellent situational awareness to take advantage of any situation. The game has an open world map based on London, so you can explore the streets and alleys like you would in real life. The characters can walk on foot, drive a vehicle, use the underground metro, or use insane parkour skills to conquer obstacles. There are missions in the game, but you can postpone them for later if you want to have some fun in the game universe.

The main mission that helps progress the storyline is separate from the mini-missions that you can overtake to earn different collectibles. When you do get down to completing the missions, you have a choice to either do them with full stealth or go berserk and blast through the enemy lines. The third approach is a bit more tactical as you use your hacking abilities to utilize the various electronic gadgets to your advantage.

Graphics

Watch Dogs Legion is a 2020 game, so you would naturally expect excellent graphics. Fortunately, the game doesn’t disappoint in this department. The characters and the game universe are crystal clear. There is a lot of detail in the universe, with a lot of thought being put into the beautification of minute objects. The game looks especially beautiful on Amazon Luna. The game ran very well during our playthough (with the occasional game bug/glitch). It’s not hitting high-end PC level, but its close.

The action-adventure game deserves a lot of praise, given the fact that it has an open universe. It is often difficult for developers to integrate good graphics into a game with such a setting. Ubisoft has done a brilliant job with Watch Dogs: Legion that deserves a pat on the back for that.

Final Thoughts

It is often the case in game series that by the third or fourth game, the story starts to die down, and players lose interest in it entirely. Watch Dogs: Legion is not like that in any way. The game is fun to play and challenging with its various missions. The graphics are stunning and realistic, while the story keeps you tied to your seat. Is it as interesting as the first two games? Not really, but there is still quite a lot to work with, especially if it is your first time playing the WatchDog series. We would highly recommend giving this game a chance during this pandemic hit year. A great addition to Ubisoft+ and the Amazon Luna platform!
